Branch News Communications UNISON News

Congratulations to London Ambulance Service branch’s Battersea station who are the overall winners of our Grovember branch noticeboards competition.

We were also shortlisted for our notice board at Romford Ambulance Station. What a fantastic achievement for our branch and well done to our reps who regularly update the boards across the service helping to keep our members informed.

As part of last autumn’s month-long recruitment and retention push, we asked you to update your branch noticeboards and tweet us your pictures under the hashtag #ratemyboard to enter our competition.

The 50 entries were whittled down to a shortlist of 11 and UNISON president Gordon McKay has now judged and chosen four prize winners. All the shortlisted branches are highly commended for their entries.

Gordon McKay said: “Branch noticeboards are one of the fundamentals of organising in a workplace. It’s a simple way to showcase the union to our members and potential members. It’s great to see so many branches taking it seriously and putting energy and effort into showing our union at its best.”

Lucie Hyndley, director of communications added: “There are some really good ideas here for other branches to copy and adapt locally.

“The best boards were a mix of up-to-date national materials, local information, photos and contact details for workplace reps, eye-catching graphics and a positive reflection of the union and the branch as active and welcoming.

“In a world where we are increasingly using digital communications, it’s important not to overlook this simple, cheap and effective way of communicating.”
